Kindergarten is a program for 5-year olds. In this year we prepare for First Grade. We learn to read
simple words and do addition and subtraction up to sums of ten. We put a lot of effort into learning more vocabulary as most of the students are not first-language English learners. We learn our colors; shapes; telling time to the hour and half-hour; the basic nutritional groups (breads & cereals, fruits, vegetables, etc.); the basic animal groups (mammals, reptiles, etc.). We learn to place our countries on the map. We do numerous art projects; learn our addresses, names, and birthdays. We try to learn basic manners and proper school behavior and speech. We also learn the basic Bible stories alternating between Old and New Testaments in alternate years.
